To all Sacred Heart Families,
Today, just before we were to begin Mass, an odor of burning material
(rubber?) appeared in the Cafeteria. The school was evacuated in an orderly
fashion, and the City of Groton Fire Department was notified.
While the Fire Department searched the entire school areas and the roof,
the students went to the Margaret Mary Center. The source of the odor
was identified as coming from a motor bearing failure in the air handling
system.
The fire department provided environmental checks and fresh air ventilation
in the school. When they gave us permission. We all returned to the Cafeteria
for a Time of Prayer and Gratitude with Father Dariusz.
Our students and staff are to be commended for the great way that they
responded. We also extend a debt of gratitude to Deputy Chief Cunningham
and the fire crews that responded. Our Groton City DARE officer, Officer
Ron Jenkins, was at Sacred Heart School and assisted all of us during
this time, and we appreciate him being a part of the Sacred Heart family!
