To all Sacred Heart Families,
In reviewing lessons plans, I saw a milestone on a planning page… “100
Days” have passed. It seems hard to believe that we are over halfway
through the school year! Yet it is a fact, and we are about to begin
Winter Vacation next week.
The year 2008 has certainly been a busy one at Sacred Heart
School. We had the first 50th Anniversary event on January 12th, with
over 170
parents, parishioners, alumni, and “friends” in attendance.
We were entertained with some SHS history by Jim Kamercia, whose family
donated the land where the school is located. Our Superintendent, Sr.
Joan O’Connor and Pastor, Fr. Dariusz Dudzik shared their thoughts
with our “family”.
We began Catholic Schools Week with Weekend Masses and the Character
Breakfast, which resulted in a great turnout. On Monday of that week,
we had an assembly with a presentation by three of our students on “Why
I like Sacred Heart School”. Also, we had over sixty guests in
attendance, with presenters including Mayor Popp, Fire Chief Dilea, Police
Chief Fogg (both SHS alumni), Jim Kamercia, and Jeff Nelson, Eastern
District Director for Governor Rell’s office. Mr. Nelson presented
a Proclamation from Governor Rell, proclaiming Monday, January 28th as
Sacred Heart School Day in the state of Connecticut.
Movie Day for the students and a Staff Appreciation Day concluded the
week. Our school was visited by over two dozen new families during that
week, which is the beginning of registration for next year.
Finally, we have email addresses for all of our teachers, which has
moved us toward our commitment of “polishing the apple”.
We hope this makes Communication easier with the school. The web site
at http://sacredheartgroton.org/ is receiving updated content almost
every day, and is undergoing a “facelift”. Please check it
out, and send your comments to me.
In the Peace of Christ,
Deacon Dave
