Dear Parishioners of Sacred Heart Church,

Some of you might have heard that the principal of our school, Deacon David Young, has decided, for personal reasons, not to continue his ministry at Sacred Heart School next year. On behalf of all of us, I would like to thank Deacon Young for his efforts and commitment to our school. We all wish him God’s blessings in his future endeavors.

At the same time, it is my honor and privilege to welcome our new principal Mrs. Soraya V. Betancourt-Calle, Ph.D. Doctor Calle has been a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church for the last several years who has been involved in many parish and school activities and committees. As she herself states she loves the school and parish. I have been always so impressed by the way she interacts with people, by her ability to lead, guide and achieve the goals. She has proved many times to be a wonderful leader, organizer and administrator. Doctor Calle knows Catholic Education very well: she has gone through it herself, all of her children have been part of the Catholic school system, and she used to teach at our school as well. She and her family are people who embrace, value and practice their Catholic faith.

On July 1, Doctor Calle will assume the position of the principal of our school with vast educational experience; she has been a professor of science and a lecturer at many universities and colleges. She has a very rich educational background: B.S in biology and M.S. in microbiology and medical zoology from the University of Puerto Rico, M.S. in immunology from the University of Michigan and Ph.D. in cell biology and anatomy from the Medical College of Georgia.

I would like to ask you to please extend your warm welcome to Dr. Calle and keep her in your prayers as she begins this important work and ministry in our midst.

Father Darius
